A master class on diversity as a narrative element and as an artist’ trait in today’s film industry. Why should we care about diversity in our narratives? What are the pros and cons of having the tag “diverse” as an artist? What makes a queer film queer? How diversified is film distribution today? Drawing from his personal trajectory as a filmmaker, Zacharias Mavroeidis will examine the notion of diversity as a creative ingredient, along with the narrative challenges that rise when dealing with identity issues. The main focus will be on sexuality, which will function as a point of reference for other aspects of diversity. His latest feature, “The summer with Carmen”, will be a case study of a diverse project’s journey from script to worldwide distribution.

Inspired by La Chimera by Alice Rohrwacher, this masterclass will focus on sacred objects within my filmmaking practice and on the “cinema of process”: how one can approach filmmaking through the variables that are present before them, rather than mourning the changes or problems that arise along the way. It is about learning how to embrace mistakes as gifts rather than obstacles, and about discovering how limitation and chance can lead to revelation.
